RESCUE

As a result of years of involvement in the recovery sector of motorsport, it seemed like a good idea to look a little into the world of rescue.

With much gentle persuasion from Chris Gwilliam, I decided to undertake some training in rescue, mainly to be able to be of assistance to a rescue unit at the scene of an incident while running as recovery.

This went a bit further and a bit quicker than I had envisaged, but I certainly wasn’t disappointed. We spent as much time training as on events and 16 weekends in the year were spent fulfilling the training requirements.

We have great fun during training sessions and it is a very good way to get a team of people working in harmony together.

After passing an assessment under the watchful eye of Charlie Webber and achieving a full rescue license, there was a sigh of relief, however the training did not stop there by any means. Following the assessment, a 4-day First Aid at Work (FAW) course was successfully completed as well as certification for Medical gases (Oxygen and Entonox).

Training in the Rescue (& recovery) disciplines never stops and is of great importance and is usually carried out at a facility in North Cambridgeshire where we are lucky enough to have buildings, ground and usually a good supply of cars to work with.
