Solent Recovery
My interest in motorsport recovery
came about when attending a winch training day with my local 4x4 off road club
in 2001, which was being run by AMRO (Association of Motorsport Recovery
Operators). It was at this event I met Mike who ran a motorsport recovery unit
under the name of Fox Recovery.
I began attending MSA (Motorsport
Association) events with Fox recovery and it’s from here my interest grew.
After attending the required events and training days I took and passed my
assessment under the watchful eye of John Blackwell (an MSA assessor).
From here I crewed with Mike on a very
regular basis attending in excess of 20 events in a year. In 2004, Mike decided
to take a break from Motorsport recovery, so I decided to establish myself as a
recovery operator and this is when Solent Recovery came into existence. From
this point I haven’t looked back and have some very keen crew members, which is
always very helpful and appreciated especially as it is totally voluntary.
Solent Recovery is also run as Cobalt
Response and as all the recovery and response kit is permanently on the unit
this gives us greater utilisation in the unfortunate situation of an incident.
A few of us on the crew are trained up to First Aid at Work (FAW) and are also
licensed to carry and administer Oxygen and Entonox which could be of assistance
to a rescue crew at an incident.
As well as carrying the required MSA
Medical & Safety frequency radio, the unit also carries Amateur radio, VHF and
UHF radio’s to aid communications among other units.
